There is a whole battery of tests that are given to determine autism. I would really question it coming from just the school psych.

I know that must be a lot to be trying to take in and to deal with. There must be an awful lot of different feelings that surface. I hope that you have someone you can talk to in person and if not that you remember that we are all here for support.

Okay, I know my daughter had some developemental delays. She talked late. But,,,,,she is also ahead of her entire class. She is the only one reading, and doing simple math, on her own. She is in K.

Kaycee, one of my biggest fears, is that the school was too quick to label her. I am going to the library tomorrow, to see if they have that book. Her official PPT is January, so I have about 6 weeks, to figure, what I want to do, get a second opinion, and be prepared to fight, if need be.

Then there is part of me, saying maybe I am just in denial. Not really sure. thanks for all of your support all. I appreciate it LOTS!!. Donna

The reason I ask this is because maybe it is like my 2 boys were.

My oldest son learned to talk quick, but was later learning to be mobile. My second son was opposite, he talked later but was mobile quick. But when I sat back and looked at this what I realized was, my oldest son had to learn to talk because he didn't have someone to do it for him, where as my second one didn't really have to because if brother got a drink, he would just stick out his cup too, or I would automatically offer him one too, so in many ways he had brother to talk for him and didn't need to learn how. But he did have to learn to be mobile if he was going to keep up with his big brother.

I don't really know a lot about autism, other than what I have read on here from mom's that are dealing with it, but I would definitely schedule an appointment with her pediatrician rather than just take the word of the school.

With the 2 boys I referred to above, the oldest one has always excelled in everything at school. The second one all through elementary school was always graded lower and it was always made out that he didn't pick things up as easily, and received some assistance at school. This year he is in 6th grade, which means he has moved to a different school (ours are split, k-5 in one school, 6-12 in the other)well now that he is in the other school he has had a 3.0 and above average in all of his classes, and I received a letter from the school that stated that their beginning of the year assessments showed that he required no special assistance.

I am not saying that school officials are not qualified to do the jobs they do, but I personally do not feel they are as qualified as the pediatrician.

I'm not a doctor, of course, but I have a friend whose son is ahead of his class academically, but socially has major issues to work out. Asperger's is related to autism, but not exactly the same thing. There's lots of good information online about it. I'd check to see if this sounds more like her, since the school's plan/goals for her would be very different if they accepted her being academically ahead but socially behind.
Hope you find what you need.
Shelia

PDD-NOS - Pervaise developmental disorder -none other specified

Aspergers

Autism spectrim disorder

with add- adhd
mood disorder
impulse control disorder

So basically he is a high functional autism. I really don't think the Dr's know what he has (and he has been to 6 Dr) a they can't pin point it. However most of the above are treated the same way. We caught it early he was only 4 but I new something wasn't right with him. He walked late. He didn't really speak. And he never really played with others. He would play next to them but not with him. He liked things in order. He would flap his hands and do things over and over. He was terrified of loud noises and as he got older he was a very literal child.

He started speech and it helped him alot. He is now 6 and doesn't shut up. He has come a long way.
He plays with others but he doesn't really understand others emotions and how his actions can effect someone else. We are still working on that but he is getting better.
He is a very smart child. He is in regular classes and the teachers are aware but haven't had to many problems. Some times he needs to be given a little more directions but he is only in 1st grade so things may get harder.
The Dr said he has a memory in the 97% percent so he doesn't forget much. So you can't tell him something hoping he will forget.

What I am trying to say is - that even though she has been diagoised you will get through it. You will have to work with her issues and her ways of doing things. High funtional children - just don't see things the way we do - but they can funtion on there own. I also find they can get a lot more frustrated when things don't go there way.

After much debate between my husband and I we agree to try medication with our son and I tell you I have seen such an improvement.

I have a question for moms reading this that have children with any of the above. Does your son/daughter still wet the bed? My son who made 6 in March still has to wear pull ups every night. We have tried medication and the pills made him vomit and the noise spray didn't work. My Dr said no it has nothing to do with it but I think it does because there brains work a little different. My son sleeps very deep.
