Oh my, when it rains, it pours! This is just a vent, sorry, I know we all have bad weeks! Last Friday night there were icy highways which meant my husband did not make it home from work as he works out of state (and commutes daily)... he took a room at a motel which was $49. No big deal at that point, lol. However, this was the first night EVER that he did not see our sons (they are 2 1/2 yrs) and kiss them goodnight... even when they were in the NICU for months, we went there every night.
So I get up Saturday and the house is COLD... down to only 52 degrees ! I had a small heater going in the boys room thank goodness! The furnace was not working... thinking hubby would be home in an hour or two to fix it. called him (at motel) and he said he was heading home after his car is warmed up and the ice melts off the windshield. We decided that I would take the kids and go to my mother's house even though he would not get to see them this way (sad!) but really glad we did take the trip because hubby diagnosted the problem as a motor.
Sooo, being an auto mechanic, he tried to go out to stores and find a motor! Really glad we were at my mother's as by the time he called someone and got a repair man out, it was really really cold in the house. The parts and labor was $480.00. OUCH. That was money in our savings account for Christmas shopping.
Then on Monday night, I heard a noise in the basement like someone put tennis shoes in the dryer. I go downstairs and realize it is the furnace making the noise... hubby got home at 9:30 pm and simply used small heaters in the bedrooms until morning. He ended up being able to fix this new problem for like $100.00 but missed the day at work which was really a big deal.
So, that is my vent, this close to Christmas and now our savings account is gone... UGH!! Why can't we get ahead? I know someone else here must be in this boat, lol, you work to save and then something like this happens. I just started back to work part-time to try to make some extra money but with daycare for two, it is not much of a help.
We are going to wait for our Christmas cash from my parents to go shopping for our boys... they will not realize if we do our Christmas morning a few days late thankfully as they are so young. We think this will be better than using credit cards to shop.

We just found out my hours are cut severly til January at my new part-time job, ugh! It is barely worth working now, I know there are other moms who can relate to my situation,
