The last 2 months have been extremely tough for us... Thank Goodness I Have the 2 "big" Santa gifts bought, but anything extra will have to come out of my grocery budget which has also been slimmed down drastically, and I still have relatives to buy for. I would love to take advantage of some of the online deals today, but I just don't have any cards that I can charge to or debit from right now. I spent $22 for groceries last week and only got a handful of items. I'm getting some of those great wt's from Shelly, so I'm hoping to get some better deals next week! Then, to beat all, last night we had Thanksgiving at the inlaws house (next door to our house), and that was a disaster, they are both basically alcoholics and one of the siblings is totally blind to the entire situation and was taking their side. We had to do a little intervention and it just wasn't a good situation. Who knows what today will bring with that whole deal. Besides my husband, my mother is my very closest best friend, and she and Dad just left for Florida for the winter and won't be back until April or maybe May. I can talk to her every day on the phone, but it's just not the same! (They were basically living on just the other side of our house about 1/4 mile away). The other thing that really has me in the dumps, is that every year for the last 10 years at least, DH and I have always gone to Florida the day after Christmas and come back the day after New Years... There is absolutely no way we can afford to do that this year. We took the afternoon off on wednesday to spend with Hallie since it was her birthday and I ended up using my Chrismas money from my parents to buy lunch and go bowling, and buy that slim $22 worth of groceries- I think I have a nice little $5 bill left. (We had Christmas and Thanksgiving last Saturday for my side of the family since my parents were heading to Florida, my brother leaves for Germany tomorrow and my niece flew back to Japan yesterday). I know I have alot to be greatful for, but it's just hard to be so strapped down right now! So that's me in a nutshell.

Thanks!
Jessica

2008 was a very rough year for us, but our faith in GOD kept us going and got us through most of it so far. So many things happened to us, but all of you gave us so much love, support, kindness and genorosity, that we couldn't have made it through with out any of you. I was really stressed about Thanksgiving, we didn't have anything for it and we only get paid the last day of each month, so we weren't to get paid til the 30th, but GOD always provides and we were so lucky that we got paid Wednesday, so off I went and got groceries for our meal. I was so relieved. We are so blessed that Cheyenne isn't greedy, she said "Don't worry Mom, we can always celebrate it on Monday, what matters is that we are all together, doesn't matter what we eat". She is very giving and I am so thankful she has such a kind heart. Hugs, Rebekka

2008 was the worst year in my whole life.

In Jan of 2008--Our neighbor that was a nurse died in her home and wasn't found until 4 days later. My neighbor downstairs sister died in feb of 2008 and now my neighbor is in the hospital and can't walk on her own.. In March I rushed my mother to the hospital with stomache pains she was in the hospital for a month and a half. The doctors messed up on her she had 3 long surgeries just in the time of her stay.. She died in April 2008... Lost my mom and my best friend. I lived with her and we helped each other out. Now I am struggling just to put food on the table.. I hate 2008.. I hope 2009 will be better for everyone. 10|1|If you have children, and they are healthy, COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!|missy|lovetotrade@hotmail.com|08:41:30|11/29/2008|

In 2008 we found out that one of my grandchildren has Friedrich's Ataxia, a rare and devastating form of MD. Genetic testing proved that I am a carrier of the defective gene. My other grandchildren are ar risk of developing MD at any time.

Worse and more heartbreaking than that, my daughter has decided that the kids shouldn't see or have anything to do with me (their Nana) because she is afraid that I will favor that child over the others. It's like I have lost my entire family. There will be NO Christmas for me.

My life savings are almost gone, thanks to the stock market, and my health has deteriorated terribly.

I understand what you are all saying: I was a single Mom and had many days when I didn't know where our next meal would come from. In those days there were NO Food Banks. I am an only child, so I had no family to help me out.

BUT, nothing, and I mean NOTHING is worse than a child's developing MD or any other devastating and potentially fatal disease. He is now robbed of his childhood: he can't ride a bike, play any sports, or even have a shower unassisted. My heart is broken, and I could still sit here and cry even though I am now on powerful drugs to help me cope.

PLEASE pray for President Elect Obama to have the wisdom and courage to do what he can to turn this crisis around.

God Bless all of you and your families this Holiday Season!

None of us will see retirement; many of us will need to move because we will be forced out of our homes; many of us will find ourselves cutting out a lot of things before this financial crisis is over.

But as Barb said it above "we're not dead" and as Kathryn put it ... things can always be worse.

Let's just pray that things change and draw upon our strengths in the coming months and, possibly, years. 12|3|Thanks whitmarg|missy|lovetotrade@hotmail.com|09:08:54|11/29/2008|
