Hi there.....hubby is away and i have taken on too many projects....all is going well except the removal of the flooring in the kitchen....we have a modular that has the engineered hardwood floors that are original...they were put in prob 25 yrs ago with some absolutely fantastic glue....on partical board....The flooring needs to be removed....can not be overlayed for 2 reasons....

1-damage to the flooring is the reason we are removing it
2-am doing the hallway as well. if i left the flooring in the kitchen they would not match up, nor would the entryways to the other 2 rooms off the kitchen.

My question is ....short of a pry bar and mallet....are there any Easier ways to remove it with out damaging the partical board????

Mind you i can not ask him as he has no clue that i am doing any of this....so far i have pulled up the carpet in the hall, pulled ddown the wallpaper in the kitchen...primed both the hall and the kitchen(mil helped with that), installed a new dishwasher(actually my brother did)....I also took down the old range hood and track lighting....
\
Did I mention i only have 1 day off during the time he is gone....and that i have to work around my brothers schedule as far as helping me.....LOL....gotta go to sleep, but hope to see some ideas....thanks...Jodie 1|1|Im talkin to my Dad, who is a carpenter, and he says.......|jen_ron|jennyayn@earthlink.net|22:25:10|11/18/2008|

that it is very doubtful that you can remove the "enginered" hardwood without damaging the particle board, and it might be in fact, a part of the hardwood. Especially since its in a modular home, and most likely made that way at the manufacterer. He said he can ask a guy he works with tomorrow who used to be a finisher and would know more about it. But he thinks that the best thing to do is to just cover the hardwood with whatever it is you are wanting to put down and that your diffrence in flooring between the kitchen and hallway shouldnt be more than an 1/8 inch. Thats his "WAG" for ya, that would be wild @$$ guess. LOL Thought that might help you some. :)

and had to also go over the top of the existing floor.

They make some product that is called like floor leveller or something like that. You add water to the mix and then put that on any areas that are uneven or in our case we were missing a small section of the floor where they moved the heat register.

Good luck! Sounds like you have alot of jobs going!

Jodie,
As you know we live in a modular also. When we went to replace the floor in the kitchen, we could not remove the old flooring without tearing out big hunks of the particle board. Finally just gave up & put a new layer of flooring board over the old & then laid a new covering of flooring over this. The other doors were a litte off but not noticeable, so this is probably what you will have to do also. Give me a holler when you have time. Wish I had your energy.
Donna 4|4|ok....i give....we are going over the flooring....|BusterBrown|srfreezerqueen@hotmail.com|22:30:17|11/20/2008|

but this means we had to add plywood to the hall way...as the exsisting flooring is 3/8ths, as is the new....would be too much of a toe stubbing factor....just got done moving the island and my brother will have to fill in there....they left a gap i guess to keep it from shifting....but i want the floor to go all the way in case we get rid of the island...as it does take up a heck of a lot of space.....hmm...maybe i will look for one of them next year when he goes away.....J/k 5|5|can you use that Luan board underlayment board?|aloha2u|alohamillion@yahoo.com|23:36:19|11/20/2008|
