This message is for anyone who buys on ebay.

When you leave feedback for your sellers, you are asked to assign stars to the seller (1 to 5 stars) for "Item as Described", "Communication", "Shipping Time", & "Shipping and Handling Charges". Ebay suggests that you rate based on this scale: 5 for excellent, 4 for GOOD, 3 for average, 2 for fair, and 1 for poor.

So, for example, you leave your seller all 4 stars because it was a good transaction. You think that rates your seller as "good", right? Well, what ebay doesn't tell you is that a seller that consistently scores 4 stars in one of these categories WILL BE SUSPENDED! Anything below a 4.1 average gets a seller suspended!

Ebay is telling the buyers one thing about these stars, when in actuality, they mean something TOTALLY DIFFERENT!

There is rumor that this is Ebay's attempt at eliminating the small-time seller (who can't absorb a lower rating because they don't have a lot of feedback) by way of making the BUYER DO THE DIRTY WORK FOR THEM!

It kind of makes me sick that ebay is misleading the buyers this way, and the sellers have no recourse (believe me, sellers are yelling and screaming about this, but to no avail). It also makes me sick to think that several times over the last few months when I bought sometime, and I didn't realize then what the feedback really meant, I gave some very good sellers a "4" thinking I was rating them as "good" when really what I was doing was leading to their possible demise!

If anyone has any questions, or doesn't understand this, just email me.

The person has 100% feedback but due to the "star system" they didnt make the grade and was banned from selling. Doesnt seem fair, does it? Cindy 4|2|No, it sure isn't fair|Beaglesfly|lmllr77@aol.com|12:57:22|11/18/2008|

Like you said, you can have 100% feedback, and because of their misleading star system, you can still be banned.

But I think Ebay knows exactly what they're doing by doing this - the officials from ebay have publicly stated that they want to get rid of the "fleamarket" look of ebay, and start to have only big company names selling there. The items sold wouldn't be the unique things that people find in their garages, they'd be cookie cutter goods that everyone else has too.

They want to be more like Amazon from what I understand.

lauren 5|1|That is totally unfair, I rarely sell on ebay anymore, just seems not worth the hassle :(|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|13:20:46|11/18/2008|

6|2|This has been in place for months now, when they changed feeback policy, they also changed the star system at the same time..|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|14:01:38|11/18/2008|

and in all that time, ebay has never educated the buyers correctly. Which kind of supports the theory that ebay is doing this on purpose to eliminate the small seller because sellers have been yelling "unfair" since it started, and yet ebay shows no sign of better educating the buyers or changing the system.

lauren 8|2|unfortunantly Loren they don't care about the "small guys" that sell on e-bay, it's all about powersellers nowdays|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|15:06:45|11/18/2008|

Sorry to say, but I was happy when I heard last week on the news that they were going to start laying off people, as their site has been slow with the number of people selling/ buying...those customer service people are no help at all when you have a issue. Maybe this will be a wake up call to them to see how greedy they have gotten and what road that greed has lead them on.

9|3|It's the small, private sellers who made eBay what it is! If I were a small seller and they wanted me gone that bad, I'd leave....if all the small sellers left at once, ebay would feel a hit, no matter what they might think. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|15:44:54|11/18/2008|
