i was wondering if you can only get the free shipping on some items on the trial or any item? --- Answer: It depends. Did you sign up for just a trial? If so, then you only can get free shipping on Prime during the trial period. If you don't like it, make sure you cancel in time. That is how I ended up with Prime. I forgot to cancel. Then, after I was done kicking myself, I shopped like a total nut for Christmas presents and saved a ton of money on shipping. Even media items (that would normally ship free on Super Saver) were eligible for Prime. Shipping Super Saver on media items around Christmas time is VERY IFFY. My dad found this out the hard way last year. It still goes media mail and we all know how long that takes.
Anything that is eligible for Prime will say so. I think it is a gold check mark or something? But it will say in the product description if it is eligible for Prime. Some things - particularly outside vendors who have their things for sale on Amazon (like Target.com, etc.) are not covered under Prime. Most of the time though things are. I have rarely had to pay shipping since Amazon usually carries the item themself too.
Also, just FYI, you can add up to like 4 people to your prime, but only if they live with you. So hubby and you can have separate accounts and still get free shipping.
