Just thought I'd share. He blogged this on Myspace.

The Bible says, "When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up my childish ways" (I Corinthians 13:11). In so many ways I have tried to live this, but I have to admit, I'm very much a child at heart. When I became a father it was even harder to put away those childish things because it allowed me to connect with my kids in a way I wish my parents would have connected with me. My oldest is now twelve, and this year will mark a baker's dozen of years of which my name has been both Matt and Dad. After so many years, I found that my children have taught me a few things about childhood, some of which I may have known at one time but forgotten, some I remember so fondly that watching my kids is like living my childhood all over again. There are so many things I could list, so I narrowed it down to my top ten most amusing things I have learned from my kids...

10. Dried Cheerios and milk has more adhesive power than epoxy.

9. Permanent markers write better on freshly painted walls.

8. The refrigerator should be checked every two minutes in case new food magically appears.

7. When taking a bath, the bathroom floor should be tested for leaks by pouring water over the side.

6. Pet fish should be treated to an all-you-can-eat buffet every so often.

5. Light switches are superfluous. All lights must remain on at all times, day or night.

4. It's much easier to drink from the container than to get a cup. And applying a touch of backwash will guarantee your rights to the rest of the container.

3. If you get hurt, cry. If there's blood, scream as loud as your lungs will allow.

2. Toys are not to be played with. Only very expensive or irreplaceable things are fun.

And the number one thing I have learned from my kids is…

1. Never stop being totally amazed by some of life's simplest things.

It's that number one I think that keeps us all young. It seems that life goes by so fast without stopping to breathe. We run to work, at work, from work, to home, to bed ,get up and start it all over again. The endless monotony of day to day life swallows up the vibrancy of a world created by a limitless God with so many opportunities to peer into His creativity, if only, for a moment, we'd stop and take it in. Like the little rainbows that appear in the sky when the sun sets behind cirrus clouds. Or the vivid variations of wild flowers that grow on unkempt meadows next to the highway. Do we ever pay attention to the intricate concentric ripples of drizzle in a shallow puddle? The next time you hold someone's hand, think about the warmth of human connection, or the texture of that person's palm, especially if it's a child's hand. Take a minute to watch fish in a fish tank. It's not boring if you watch with the burning curiosity and wonder of a child. I don't think this qualifies as childish things. In fact I believe this consistent state of awe and wonder is precisely what God wanted for people of all ages. Roman's 1:20 says, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible attributes-His eternal power and divine nature-have been understood and observed by what He made, so that people are without excuse." (Emphasis added.) If only we would see things through the eyes of a child, because, after all, "…the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these," Matthew 19:14b

He is quite a writer! Does he keep a regular blog going? There are some really wonderful "dad blogs" out there and I think there is a need for them.

Keep going! We want more, LOL.

I did skip the political posts but I enjoyed his posts about your kids. The post about baby Dot was so sweet-- I hope you print it and keep it in her baby book (Really LOL because if you are anything like me the baby books are mostly blank-- I have a lot to catch up on!)

The childhood post reminded me of when my middle daughter was four and it was always a good day if she saw a couple of dogs and got to make a dandelion wish. Actually she still thinks days like that are the best and I do too! I love going on walks with my kids because I always see so much more when we are looking at things together and I see how much I miss on my own. 6|1|Kristy you are very one luck woman to have a man like that!!!!!|rainj|jrainshgp@centurytel.net|14:00:06|10/20/2008|

I sent one to your email, so if you want it to go to his maybe it can be forwarded? It will arrive some time on Thursday. I tried to find a penguin one but finally had to give up. They are probably out there somewhere and I remembered that from his blog.

Anyway happy birthday to him! ttyl, vanessa
