to see if they wanted them for their grandchildren and they both did so I "scored" LOL, for them too. DH and I had so much fun with them tonight, like 2 kids. There were a few people in the store that said they were getting them to put on ebay. I felt bad about that but everyone is entitled to do what they want, I guess. I was thinking that I should get another in case a friend here needed but it was a lot of money to put out. I remember someone on the board offered me the Tickle me Elmo at double the price 2 years ago, I turned it down, the baby wasn't even born yet and I got him last year at regular price anyway. If anyone needs and I can still get (new store) I would be happy to check it out and get for you at the price they charged plus the shipping cost. This is supposed to be a HOT Christmas item,LOL, he sure was fun even in the box! 5|1|The thought of Christmas, is making me sick to my stomach this year. ALthough we have cut our list down to a bare minimum. We don't have the money, and I am not going to put us out, just to "appear" all is okay. I was so mad at my sister in law(husbands brothers wife) last year. She did not get my daughter anything, and had the nerve to tell me, it was because, the gifts we get her kids are TRIVIAL. She has four kids, and we couldn't afford, more than 5.00 each. Hey, lady.........have you noticed my husband being out of work fot 2 years???? Sorry for venting(still could not believe she had the balls to say it), but after that, I decided, we will not be getting any gifts for her kids. Less money to spend, and I do not have to feel guilty when, Emly is the only one, who has nothing to open.

I am so grateful my daughter is very easy going. SHe is not a "I want kid", and it very happy with what she does get. Which will be very little this year. Looking forward to when my husband gets disability, I want to make that year a Christmas to remember, for us. Donna

It upset me to read your post and see that sister inlaw did not buy a gift for your child, as she saw what you bought for her children as "trivial", thought her behaviour was childish and mean as well, as even though your daughter handled it well, inside her feelings were hurt just like anyones would be. I find that unacceptable what she did and frankly she is a "B"..Whatever you can give someone should be viewed as a gift, it came from the heart, you were thought about, not how much you spent should be the basis of what is qualified as a christmas present or not. I believe christmas is for Children and it really gets me upset to see a child go without a present because of a adult being selfish(your sister inlaw). I commend you for teaching your children what the true meaning of christmas is and to be greatful for all they have and what they receive.

That was VERY selfish & rude what your sil said/did & totally NOT what Christmas is about, & it doesn't sound like your sil knows what the true meaning of Christmas is. Her loss.
One of the best Christmases I ever had was when I was 17. I grew up alot that winter! My dad had had a double hernia operation that Nov., my mom had kidney infection, the pipes in the street were frozen so we had no water & I was still half out of commission from a fractured vertebrae in my back from a car accident in Sept. By myself, I was hauling water from the church across the street (different pipeline) & chopping & hauling wood from the woodshed. Workman's Comp. was jerking my dad around so we only had the money I was making from babysitting. We were SO financially strapped that we couldn't even afford a Christmas tree so my dad & I went out in the front yard & chopped down the small pine tree we had out there (my dad held it while I cut it). All 3 of us were pretty much housebound, not only because of our health & the cold but also because of no money for gas - all my babysitting money went towards food &/or the utility bills. We played alot of card games & put alot of jigsaw puzzles together during that time. ;) The best part was that we scouted around the house for something of our own or made something to wrap up & give each other. Surprises galore! LOL From a financial, weatherwise & healthwise standpoint, it was maybe one of the worst Christmases we had but from a personal, spiritual & meaningful standpoint, it was one of the BEST Christmases I've ever had! :)

OMG!!! Donna your SIL sounds like a total B*T*H!! That is so uncalled for and it doesn't matter what a gift cost, like Linda said, it comes from the heart. Last year (and this one too) we haven't had much to give either but my kids totally understand and I'm so thankful they aren't greedy and expect anything. Thank goodness for the Christmas Angels that Shelly has started...Emly sounds like an amazing girl and it's so refreshing to hear about children that aren't greedy or expect things...I remember one year (with my ex-husband) we decided to do a total handmade Christmas. We wanted the boys to know that there's more to Christmas than getting expensive store bought gifts. So we made a rule that you couldn't give or receive a store bought gift, you had to make your gift to give. My brother's family even participated and it was awesome. We really enjoyed seeing all the wonderful handmade things and it was neat to see the ideas the boys came up with, I want to do another year like that with Cheyenne, cause she loves to make gifts. It was a lot of fun..My son & I made oatmeal raisin cookies & home made fudge to pass out for x-mas presents, we bought tins at the dollar store to pack them in. I whipped up some crochet potholders to attach to the top and they came out really cute and everyone loved the gifts and ate all the sweets. For my one niece which is on a strict diet due to allergies to certain flours, I did a tote bag with hand made candles for her. I think hand made gifts are soo much nicer in quality and workmanship, than something mass produced that has no uniqueness at all..

All of us are having financial woes so we're all going to bake three items to bring to our gathering. Then each family will pick three things to take home with them. When you consider I have 2 brothers, 2 sisters, my mom & her fiance, then my gma & her bf I'll have six to chose from. Gotta be something my kiddos like out of all those choices lol. I'm so looking forward to it plus it will give me an excuse to do some Christmas baking with my kids.

I have my nephew taken care of (the only child in the family).
Bought a pair of pants and nightshirt for Gma at Kmart using some of the catalinas.
My Dh is taken care of (in theory) cuz this summer he asked if he could buy an expensive toy...and I told him it was his Xmas gift from us.... but I know he won't recall that....so I'll get him something small as well.

Which leaves my Mom and Dad, my sister and BIL, and DH's Mom (which can be put off as she lives in Canada and we usually send up one box per year for Christmas/Bday and never at the busy Christmas shipping time).

My sister is my salvation.....as she does most of my shopping. She will probably be the one to pick out and get all but the gift for herself....and I just pay her back. She finds great deals and saves me so much footwork that I can never begin to pay her back. Last year I never did find the "perfect gift" for her and she never came up with anything she wanted....so I ended up bagging up some gum and a note saying I'd pay for her refund forms for the year. I know she was disappointed as she opened it, but she did enjoy it during the year. No idea what to do this year...but I'm leaning toward getting a bunch of tarts from Honey for her. 19|1|Lets see I got something for Zach and something for Zach and a lil something for Zach and oh something big for Nick lol a couple of things for DH and one for Mike and|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|11:14:43|10/16/2008|
