My sisters beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog,General George Washington needs your prayers please...He is in surgery today because he isnt able to stand,his back legs gave out on him.
PLEASE say a prayer for General. He goes into surgery this afternoon to relief pressure on his spine from a tumor. They've given us odds of 85-85% success based on looking at the MRI, but won't obviously know for sure til they get inside. The surgery will allow him to walk. Right now he has motor skills in back legs and feeling, but the pressure on the spine doesn't let him stand.
He is a fighter. Yesterday when I got there he sat up and started dragging him self toward me and the door! This is why we have made the decision to go ahead with surgery. He is strong, has a will to leave, is (as usual) hungry as a horse and wants out of there and to come home.
Assuming all goes well, he will come home in 5-7 days.

He will be heavily medicated for a day or so, they went in and removed bone from his spine to get that tumor out and to take the pressure off his spine so he can walk again. Hopefully he can come home in 3-4 days .We shall see how well he recovers.These beautiful dogs are from Switzerland and are prone to cancer and most do not live past 8 yrs old.So very sad !My sister was a tour guide at Mt Vernon so thats how General George Washington got his name and his little sister is Patsy,the nickname George Washington used to call his wife,Martha.Thank you all for the emails,prayers and concerns.Much appreciated.Barb 5|2|So Happy that things went well for him!! |cashcoll|cashcoll@yahoo.com|01:13:32|10/10/2008|

She woke up one morning dragging her back end and we -- to this day -- have no idea what happened to her.
There were only two surgeons in our area who do the kind of back surgery she needed so it was very expensive -- $5,000 and there were absolutely no guarantees that Reba would be able to stand or walk again, but we had to give her a chance.
Praise the Lord, the surgery was a success and Reba can not only stand and walk, she can run!!!

HI,,for those of you who emailed me about General....He came home monday and still isnt wanting to walk on his own,they can put his back end in a sling and help him along for now though.He is eating and sleeping and loves being in his own surroundings though. He does have cancerous tumors in his lungs and all over his spine.He is expected to live 3 months so lets pray they are wrong. With all this going on with General,my sister decided to take in Patsy,his 5 yr old sister and she now has a tumor 6cm big in her lungs plus a few lumps on her back,they did remove one of them on monday and it is being tested to see if it is cancerous or not..Her mother passed away 3 wks ago and her father is still alive.He is 8.5 yrs old now.The oldest living Bernese Mountain Dog that the breeder has and he is from Norway.So sad to see these beautiful dogs get sick like this,esp since they dont live long anyways...Keep the prayers coming as they are not out of the woods yet..Thanks,,Barb 8|2|I'm so sorry to hear about General & Patsy. :(|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|07:52:01|10/15/2008|
