We are making apple butter. We are going to peel the apples on saturday and then make the apple butter on Sunday. It will take most of the day saturday to peel 8 bushel of apples and then all day on Sunday to make it.

Its alot of work but I'm excited about doing it. My dad has emphazyma real bad and he wanted to do it and then he didnt know if he would beable to stand to do it and I said ok I'll get some friends to help make it you just over see it so he said ok even though he doesnt like that but we will make a kettle full for him this might be his last time he gets to do it. His health isnt very good so we try to do as much as he wants to do.

So sweet of you to do this with your dad and let him get involved in the process of making it even with him not being well. I think that is wonderful you do things with him or for him, things he really wants to do. You are a great daughter to him and the time you spend together I see that as soo special.

I only know how to make it outside in a big copper kettle.

we use 8 bushels of apples usually a mix of red delicious and staymans
about 20lbs of sugar
liquid cinnamon and liquid cloves

and you just have to cook it down until its smooth and it usually take about 6hrs to do it and you have to stir it the whole time because if it starts to burn the whole kettle is ruined its pretty "stressful" when you first start it because thats when it can stick and start to burn.

I'm sure there is a way to make this on your stove top but i'm not sure how.

I wish I could share it with everyone that wants some because we dont eat it that much but my dad loves it so thats why we are doing it. I like it on hot biscuits with butter and then apple butter oooohhh its so yummy like that. I also like to put it on sausage patties. My dad likes to put it on pancakes.

Thanks

I've been starting to think that it is getting just about time to make apple crisp. Never made apple butter, but have tasted it and it was so good!

Nice that you can do this with your dad too. Take some pictures! vanessa 10|2|you have to take the peeling off...|kthy26|kthy26@yahoo.com|15:15:30|10/08/2008|
