office, with my new tote project in it. There was 1 guy waiting in there and I could "feel" him looking at me as I crocheted. I looked up and he was smiling at me, LOL, so I smiled back. He said, "Now that's the ultimate in recycling". He was actually really interested in it and asked me a lot of questions about how I made it.

11|2|I read in one of the links that were posted, that if you have a rotary cutter like used for quilting, to use that to cut the strips from the plastic bags as it goes faster and easier....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|23:15:35|10/11/2008|

I am also thinking if one end was anchored down and you could pull the bag taut it would cut easier....so maybe tape the handle ends down to a table and hold the bottom edge taut. Then make a cut and slide the scissors to cut it....less of the cutting motion with the scissors so not so hard on your hands, wrists???

Joy :)

"Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy." 12|3|It was not the cutting but the looping that was hurting...it's just the wrist that the stupid horse broke last year|iteachca|iteachca@aol.com|23:18:03|10/11/2008|

Sorry, I have been feeling really, really crappy. Remember that sprained ankle back in May? Been going to the orthopedist all summer and now Fall. In late August, he said I must have a stress fracture since it wasn't getting better, took an exray, said he saw a tumor and sennt me for an MRI. During the MRI, I asked if they were doing my ankle too and they said, no just the foot! Took 2 weeks to get back in to the orthopedist and he said it was Morton's Neuroma, quite common and gave me a shot of cortisone in my foot. Not only did that NOT get better, it got worse! I decided to go to another orthopedist, my appt. is on Monday. This is the one i should have gone to in the first place, I just didn't want to wait a week for him (and I ultimately did have to wait a week for an appt, no to mention the 5 MONTHS). Anyway, I have been eating pain pills because I can barely walk and you knowI have to for my job. My ankle is so swollen at night, in the morning, DH has to help me out of bed and I almost fall when he lets go, takes me awhile to get my balance, I limp so badly. I feel nauseous from the pain meds, vicious circle.
So for the tote, I have made 2 now! I used the link for the beach bag from Bev's Country Cottage and I used all yellow bags from the Shop-Rite. I used a size N Hook instead of the K suggested. I like the second 1 I did much better. I used white bags from all over with different colors. I changed this one up a bit. The first one really was more like tote bag size, this 1 is bigger. Used a bazillion bags, I should have counted, but didn't. For this, I chained 42 and single crocheted across, I did not make 2 pieces, only 1, that way I had 1 less side to sew up. I just kept folding it in half to check my progress and made it as long as I wanted to. For the handles, I did make just 1 but ch 5 across instead of 7 and did not come close to 128 rows like it said, that was way too long for me. To put together, I single crocheted around the whole thing including the handles, and I attached the handles on the outside of the bag, I liked that look better. I used green yarn from a mitten that i took apart so the entire bag is 100% recycled!

Joy, I will take a pic with my camera and mail it to you, I don't have a camera for the computer so I can't post it.

18|2|Thank you Cathie! I will follow your instructions then and see how I do on it...might start one this week to see if I can pull it off, lolol. I am so sorry to hear your ankle and foot are still giving you heck, I hope the other ortho dr. can help more than the first one....and yes, I knew all the way through reading that you would still be working even with all that pain and swelling. :( I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers....and sending a big hug too just for good measure. I should be able to post the pic, I have a scanner/printer :) I might need help on getting it linked to a post, but there are instructions somewhere on the boards, lol. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|08:55:32|10/12/2008|
