What does everyone think of this bailout? I would vote no.
Its like financial terrorism, they are trying to scare us. Saying it will dry up credit and your employer won't make payroll? Good grief, what employer floats payroll? A wise business doesn't do that and I can't imagine many are. What the banks don't understand is that we don't need their credit. If credit did dry up, prices would fall because nobody could buy more than they can afford. The banks got Americans addicted to credit and now they are threatening to take away our fix. But you can live fine without credit, you can survive.
What is really at risk here is the interest payments from credit to the banks, not our paychecks. That is why they are in a panic and want us to panic too.
Ok, rant over, I would vote NO to the bailout. 1|1|There was a post about this (well sorta, lol) yesterday....in a nutshell, I'd vote no because there are other options out there as solutions that would not make those fatcats any fatter and hit the middle and lower class in the pockets so hard.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:07:04|10/01/2008|

I saw a letter signed by 200 or so economists that said this bailout would only do more damage. I think anything done fast is gonna be wrong and there are smarter plans out there. I sent emails to all my congressmen and told them that Americans are broke and we can't afford to bail out the banks. Its so wrong to take from the poor and give to the rich, I can't even describe how evil that feels to me. 3|1|at first i thought it would be good (M)|pussecat|pu55ecat@aol.com|20:21:17|10/01/2008|

until they started letting out some of the details and now, i don't like it one bit.

i also don't like the mortgage bill that went into effect on today. i think it's not fair to "bailout" everyone who's in forclosure as of today. i think it should based on an individual by individual basis as to whether the were paying their mortgages on time up until they couldn't get refininaced and if they couldn't get refinanced even though they had good credit. i don't think the goernment should bail out every tom dick and harry who bought costly homes they coudln't afford from the begining and using someone's credit report as proof woudl be a good place to start.

oh man, i'm ranting. sorry about that! so, my answer is now, NO, i wouldn't vote FOR the wall street bailout. :)

They say it is due to the mortgage trouble but I have seen other reports that say the problem is in the derivatives market. I have no clue what that is but I am furious they would blame it on borrowers and not the lenders. It just makes sense that those who control the bulk of the money can make or break the economy. It is kinda like me boycotting walmart, I won't bring them down with my few dollars.
I do think people get in over their heads with mortgages but that apparently is a very small part of this mess. 5|1|The lowdown on ACORN.....|Sharon|s_forshee@hotmail.com|21:35:02|10/01/2008|

I didn't know much about ACORN until I did some reading about it and found this on youtube...very scary with so much corruption going on and we're paying for all this??? I think everyone should see this. I also vote NO on the bailout as I feel all those that did wrong, should all be thrown in jail, give all the money they took back to all of us hard-earning taxpayers and impeach all politicians involved, including those in Fed Reserve, bankers, etc. If we did this, we lose everything, our jobs, savings, homes, etc., and they get away with murder! Just disgusting! God help us all during these very difficult times.

The bailout is no less than grand theft by banks. I don't understand those complex derivatives but a lot of experts are saying that is what caused this, not the housing loans. Bad housing loans were only part of the mess, as I understand it. The media is blaming the people instead of the government, that is why we hear the mortgage line so much. Derivatives are complex and not a lot of people understand them, I surely don't but I know its the bankers and our government who did this, not homeowners. I think they should be prosecuted as well. I watched the senate votes tonight and Casey is one of ours in PA and he voted yes, he is in that video you posted as well.
Here is part of an article:

At the heart of the matter is the incredible growth of debt and leverage in the financial markets since deregulation set in about 30 years ago but which went into overdrive in the past ten years. Derivatives scarcely existed 15 years ago; today they total between $600 trillion and a quadrillion- that's 1000 trillion or 10 to the power 15. By comparison the world's GDP is less than $60 trillion and the capitalisation of all the world's stock markets is less than $50 trillion.

I'm not a democrat or republican as they are both the same deal. Both sides voted for this bailout and both sides benefit, it doesn't matter what party they claim, all the same goals. Even Obama and McCain supported the bailout so there is no difference. It is just a way to divide the people, divide and conquer...all the while they are laughing and having lunch together. It is truly sad how they play us for fools, God have mercy on them all. 8|3|You're absolutely right!!....|Sharon|s_forshee@hotmail.com|07:39:18|10/02/2008|

Although I'm a registered Republican, I have joined the Libertarian Party and voting for Bob Barr - we need to go back to smaller govt, less taxes, etc. Our country is becoming more and more Socialist and it's the wrong way to go. Too many people depend on govt. for assistance (about 53% of American depend on our govt. for freebies)-free meds, welfare, etc. This is the govt's fault because they allowed this to happen, since FDR era. There is also too many abuses going on. In my opinion, the Dems have become the far-left party and the Repubs have become the Democratic Party-moving away from what their party really stands for. I also do not like the fact of our govt., are becoming more and more intrusive into our lives. I do not want them to tell me what to eat, vaccines to take (most are bad because of mercury/thimerosal-Alzheimer's/Autism risks, etc.), the constant pushing of pharm drugs, etc., when we should be treating our bodies what Mother Nature provided for us, etc., plus the many taxes they take from us and so on. It is really sad, because our country will never be the same again and will lose our superpower status. People need to wake up to see what is really going on, face reality, because it will get worse. To get back to the way our country is based on, we have to get rid of all corrupt officials, start over but in order for that to happen, it has to crash first and/or have a Revolution. My hubby says we will be like France. Also, here's another item for you to read, called Codex (population control) which I didn't know existed - very scary indeed. Have a great day all!! Sharon:)

We don't even need banks or credit, our family has no credit and we are closing our bank accounts. The borrower is always a slave to the lender so credit only makes us slaves. Now granted, we don't have new cars and pricey tvs and such but all that we do have is ours! We live on the money we take in and spend no more than that. The problem is that most americans are addicted to credit and this "crisis" is about taking away that credit. I say, go ahead I don't need it anyhow!
Raising the FDIC limits to make people feel safe about their accounts only tells me that the our accounts aren't safe. I don't want to wake up one morning and my bank be out of business with all my money in it. 12|6|Raising the FDIC is still only helping the rich....how many people do you know with over $100,000 cash in a bank account??? However, he just recently transferred all his IRA/401K pension monies and put in Swiss banks to avoid a lot of taxes in the future. This is our retirement life savings. You have to remember small business owners are the backbone of this country, keeping this economy going. However, many will be hurt because of this huge bailout. Yes, my husband is worried too. I went to get my nails done yesterday and I was the only customer in there the whole hour I was there! I was stunned as this place is usually very busy. It is scary. I have lost a lot of faith/trust in our Govt., Fed Reserve, Banks, Wall Street, etc. Also another thing, my husband told me few years ago that if Pelosi/Reid were going to get elected, which they did, he took all of his money out of the stock market, because he knew what was coming! He was talking to my neighbor next door few weeks ago, an elderly man in his early 80's, who has a daughter and grandson living with him, that he lost 250K in the stock market on the day it went down 700 pts and he's not upset about it! I'm sure he's lost more since and this is his life savings! I would be so upset! So, if you have any money invested in the stock market, get out now!! Sharon:) 27|8|The problem with the govt's plan is they are not concerned with the small business owners or the soon-to-retire....they are concerned with paying back favors and lining their own pockets....If the raise in the FDIC helps the small business then I am glad for that, really and truly....I hope the Fed Reserve doesnt have to start printing off all that money though,or we are all in trouble, the dollar will take a huge dive :(|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|20:17:51|10/02/2008|

My family lives the same way. We have NO credit cards which is sometimes a strain if we need to rent a car (we just don't) or do anything like that, but we pretty much live very happily without credit. My extended family thinks we are more than a bit strange, but Dh and I decided that this was how we wanted to be and we are almost 20 years in and not likely to go back.

We rent and we are also at a point in our lives where we have concluded that neither of us really feel the need to own a home. I know it is supposed to be the american dream, but it just isn't my/our dream. We drive older cars (HA, when they run!) and we walk and use public transportation as often as possible.

His last job layoff left us with a little 401K which we immediately cashed out. If we had not done that we would have lost the entire thing so I have no regrets there.

My husband mentioned about the future restriction on vitamins so I have been trying to stock up. I am going to print this out for my family and send them a copy, thank you so much for the article.
This bailout is about more than the money (which is obscene already) but it is really a huge grab for power. So they can make all sorts of things illegal and criminalize us for no good reason.
You are so right about the vaccinations. I just read about gardisil, the hpv one they are pushing on girls. I read the fda adverse effects and 11 girls have died so far, one on the very same day just hours after the shot. I could barely read it, age 12...age 17...age 15...all dead within a week. By the way, gardisil is MANDATORY for women who want to become US citizens, how much longer until they make it mandatory for the rest of us??
We refuse ANY vaccinations in this house and I wish more people knew that vaccinations are spreading disease, not preventing it. The flumist nasal one they are pushing has a live virus for the avian bird flu. Posters in some hospitals say "please leave the building if you have had the flumist vaccine within the past 21 days" as you could be toxic to others. They have this flumist at walmart! There is no way I would walk into a walmart again, you don't know who got that flumist or not.
The best thing would be for the banks to collapse but this bailout props them up so they can continue to bleed us dry with interest. We do need a revolution because it sure would be nice to have our country back. We are very close to being a total dictatorship and this "economic panic" is just a fear mongering tactic to make you believe they can take care of us, that is...if you give them total control. 29|5|The Gardasil vaccine is a scam....|Sharon|s_forshee@hotmail.com|20:26:32|10/02/2008|

Found this short list on another board....just a few little things tacked on to the proposal since earlier this week...

Manufacturers of kids' wooden arrows - $6 million. (HUH????)

Puerto Rican and Virgin Is- lands rum producers - $192 million. ($192 million to promote the manufacturing and marketing of alcohol?!?!?)

Wool research. No amount listed (now this COULD be beneficial....could help sheep farmers)

Auto-racing tracks - $128 million (I love me some NASCAR as much as the next gal, but WHY is the govt involved in this???? Did Jr. get elected to Congress when I wasnt looking????)

Corporations operating in American Samoa - $33 million. (Ummm, ok)

Small- to medium-budget film and television productions - $10 million (Again, could be a good thing for indy-film makers...but again, WHY is the govt involved...and watch, they will only grant these funds to film makers who are willing to propogate their 'way of thinking' or 'govt approved topics'--there goes that pesky First Amendment).

The proposal couldnt get passed with out all this additional pork spending tacked on....what does that tell us about our leaders in Washington????

ETA: McCain, Obama, AND Biden all voted this through.....*shaking head*

"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men."
- Woodrow Wilson 40|3|Those words stand truer today than ever......it is a sad day in American history.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|15:41:14|10/03/2008|

That's correct, Brad Sherman (D-CA) was on Kudlow and explained to the world that the $700 Billion wasn't meant for the US, it was meant for foreign investors.
