I have had my cat for about 6 years .........within the last year she has decided it would be fun to pee at random times on my husbands clothes. It never fails he could leave a sock in the floor and the next morn i am great with the wonderful aroma of cat urin.

we have givin her many chances an excuses thinking we werent cleaning the box enough or even thought it cold be medical which i know is not the case cuz it only happens once every month or so and every time it is on dh clothes like she is doing it on purpose.

basically we have decided we are fed up with it and are going to get rid of her. i am just unsure what we should do .... now the shelters are so over burden and she is sort of an older cat even if she did get adopted i would hate to think what someone else might do to her if she started to pee all over there stuff........i hate to even think this but would it be more humane to put her down : ( i know that sounds really bad but i also cant stand to think of her living in a cage the rest of her life and on the other had it is just to much for us to handle with the new baby

any advise would be appreciated

thanks 1|1|IMO I would never give up a pet until all options are looked into and that includes a trip|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|10:18:41|09/28/2008|

to the vet. It's been happening a year? I also suggest that you look everywhere possible in your home and I bet you will be surprised to find it someplace else Have you tried changing lotters? Sometimes they just stop liking ones you've used for years 2|2|maybe its a jealousy thing..(M)|kthy26|kthy26@yahoo.com|10:41:50|09/28/2008|

I know that sounds crazy but this is why I think this

When my son goes and stays with his grandparents for a night or a few nights for just a visit my moms cat pee's on the bathroom rug on on a rug somewhere in the house and she does it every night that he stays or if someone else comes and stays at there house the cat pee's on a rug if someone stays 3 nights the cat pee's on the rug 3 nights and once the guests are gone she doesnt pee on the rug anymore so for my mom her cat gets upset because someone different is in the house and my moms cat is an older cat as well but my mom just cleans up the mess.

So maybe think of things that have changed over the passed year that could have the cat upset you said you are busy with the baby so maybe the cat is jealous or upset because of the baby.

I am like the other poster my last resort would be get rid of the cat but you have to make the final decision about that. I know its a hard decision but you have to do whats bets for you and your family.

Good luck and let us know the outcome

I just googled "my cat pees in the house for no reason" and got tons of answers.

Here's just a couple from the first answers:

Doesn't like where the litter box is located in the house
Needs a new, different litter box
Diabetes
Bladder stones
Urinary tract infection
One kidney bigger than the other
Idiopathic cystitis (irritated bladder that has unknown cause)

I know you said there's nothing medically wrong, but how many of these conditions were ruled out definitely by a doctor?

I couldn't stand the lingering odor of cat pee, but I personally would (if you can afford it) make sure the cat has a complete check over for all these conditions before making a decision. Shelters see wayyyy more cats than dogs on average, so I'm sure a much higher percentage of them don't get adopted out and eventually are euthanized.

it started before the baby came so i dont think she is jealous of the baby she really doesnt even notice the baby to much

i just dont know what to do its not like i " want " to get rid of her but i dont want my house to smell like cat urin and i dont want my child crawling around in it either 5|2|well, like Tina said.....|Beaglesfly|lmllr77@aol.com|11:48:44|09/28/2008|

sometimes they suddenly don't like the litter you've always used, so maybe try that. And a new litter box wouldn't hurt.

Hello..... baby in house..... kitty not acting the same.... Hmmmmm...

You say this started before the baby come home. BUT you were changing; your and DH were changing; new things were coming into the house. Cats are very very perceptive. I know when I was pregnant one of my cats insisted on sleeping in the new bassinet. He wasn't too happy when the baby started sleeping there, but he got over it. Luckily he didn't start peeing all over the place, but he could have!!!

Cats don't like their routine changed. Maybe kitty noticed you weren't playing or loving her as much because you were busy growing a baby. And they can smell things.

Try a little more attention. Let her "meet" the baby.

I'm SURE it's a jealousy thing.

Good luck! 8|2|Jealous, can really be a part of this.(M)|dlpavitt|dlpavitt@att.net|12:55:32|09/28/2008|

I have had my cat for over 13yrs. Before I got married, and pre baby in the house.

Had never left her alone, but when we went on our honeymoon, we put her, and my dog in the kennel. She didn't eat the entire time she was in the kennel. So we decided, we weren't goinf to that again, and left her home in the future. BUT>>>>> every time I would pack for a trip after that, she would pee in my suitcase, on my suitcase, or in the clothes. I know YUCK, and now I even store my our suitcases(after replacing them twice), in a part of the house, she has no acces too. They know when things are goming to happen.

ALso, my cat used to sleep on me, and also sleep on my lap, when I was watching TV, until I got pregnant with EMLY(DD), and now has not done either since. She is now my husbands best friend.

So in my opinion, something probably, is not to her liking. Good luck, figuring it out, but please think hard about putting her down, or giving her up. Donna

but we do clean it out everyother day its clean............. but mabey a whole new box and a new litter brand will help

but its not the baby jealously thing i said this started over a year ago i have not been pregnant for over a year. 10|1|My cat will not go in his box if it isnt cleaned out EVERY day, even with only 1, they are very picky that way.. try a larger litter box too, he might feel cramped.. and put the box somewhere concealed, my cat doesnt like people around when he is doing his business.. lol.. cats are very very picky.. make sure he is getting enough attention and playtime a day too.. they are very receptive and though independant, extremely jealous! 12 years of marriage and that cat is all his... never really warmed up to me and tolerates me so long as I give him pets (only in the morning though) and feed him when he wants fed. He likes to box clean too. He is a hider and saves up a full bladder. My dog has never loved me the same since I had kids. She always used to be my baby, sleep on my side of the bed, etc. and now if I try to pet her, she just walks off like I am bothering her. Where is she now? Under hubby's feet happily snoozing away. Sometimes a pet just doesn't like someone they view as competition.

You could try moving the litter box. Hubby's cat kept peeing on the laundry room floor. We had to replace the wood and do some serious work in there as a result. We put the box in our bathroom, off the beaten path and out of the noisy laundry room, and he's much happier. Like paper on the floor attracts cats, so do clothes, unfortunately. I'm just glad his cat doesn't pee on my side of the bed.

Like some others, I wouldn't take an animal to a shelter unless it was a last resort. If you must, please make sure it is a no kill shelter... you can see if the cat has a medical problem and if all is clear, the vet may have some fresh ideas on behavior modification. But prepare to have it be your behavior modified :) We don't have rugs in our bathroom for a reason... bad kitty!

Had a beautiful older Himalayan.. but moved to a house with mice..
had to get a couple new cats that were "micers"
My older cat resented the new cats and peed in my closet ..
so, it is change in some fashion.

Edited to add- My Himalayan went to a nice home with a wealthy woman and no other pets..
Last I heard he was living the life of Raliegh..

This lady was found by placing a card & photo at VETS office.. and the receptionist helped
place my cat to this lady. She knew the lady would be wanting it.
