You won't believe this. Many years ago we went to an antique furniture store and we bought a "Larkin". It is a desk/secretary - made out of solid oak with a drop down desk top with cubby holes. Two little shelves on the top and a little mirror and two shelves underneath. My DH had gone out to the parking lot to get our vehicle to put it in and I was standing at the back door of the shop with the salesman/owner and I asked him if he knew anything about this Larkin. He told me that YEARS ago, the women used to save some sort of proof of purchase from some kind of oatmeal and send them in and get "prizes" and a Larkin was the very best "prize" for tons of oatmeal lids, or whatever was required.

It is one of my very best antiques - especially with the story behind it.

Have used it for years in school class rooms when I want the kid's attention or speaking briefly at a church meeting, etc....
It's looking old and haggard...but then, so am I !!!!

Have other things too, but this one is my favorite!

a big, stuffed California Raisin pillow type doll from about 25 yrs. ago, & a ceramic salt & pepper shaker set from Hormel's Mary Kitchen Hash promo that was about 10 yrs. ago. "Cal" sits faithfully on my dresser. ;) The salt shaker is in the shape & look of a small version of a can of hash & the pepper shaker is in the shape of an egg w/a big, black smile on it. LOL
Other than that, about 20 yrs. ago my mom sent in for a Mr. Coffee coffee maker for me w/Folgers upc's. I swear, that was the best coffee maker I've ever had as it lasted over 10 years!

I saved those when I was a kid for when I would one day get married, still have one here someplace.

Also have a large set of pink glass dishes with silver pinecones on them, that my husband grandmother saved, they would get them when they went to a certain movie theater in Chicago. We use them every year for the Holidays. I collect pink glassware so they go good with that.
