buy some baby fabric and wrap up a photoalbum. All you need is hot glue, the fabric, alittle foam padding to attach to the front and back covers (and then you wrap the fabric around it). And maybe a few little teddy bears or small baby things to put on the top. I also make a photo frame..by cutting a piece of hard cardboard into a photo frame size (4x6) and then cut out the middle for the picture. Then I foam that too and wrap the fabric around that as well and hot glue that onto the cover. It comes out very very nice. :) 2|1|I love the casting/mold kits (m)|ptmama525|ptmama525@aol.com|12:36:49|09/10/2008|

You can get them at Walmart for under 10.00, and its something that will last a lifetime.
They have the handprint or footprint ones.

cheap to make and super cute. I liked soccer moms idea of gently used baby clothes in different sizes, thought that was a great idea, very frugal and yet heart felt too. When I had my nanny job, I bought at the resale sop baby outfits and bibs, washed them up and tied pretty ribbon around them to give as a gift,I used a new receiving blanket bought at the dollar store as the wrapping paper, looked very nice and was appriciated.

** I've also in the past given my niece a huge basket full of freebies I got in the mail, samples of posie diapers, 6 full size cans of formula, 12 pk free of doctor brown baby bottles, free after coupons baby wash, lotion, destin full size bum cream, and sample containers of bum cream, babys first five years hardcover book free from state farm and a baby book from nestle baby formula...And added a 6 pk of burb cloths I sewed up,and someone from this board sent me 2 handmade new ones as well to add. I put it all in a big wicker laundry basket that I bought at the thrift store, she used everything I gave her and the basket worked out well to hold the babys dirty laundry. ** I worked on this over a period of 6 months so I would have a full basket of goodies to give her as funds were tight for me too, but wanted to give her something nice as she was struggling as a young mom and knew she could use everything she could get. All in all I was able to give her a huge basket of stuff for a retail value of over $100, she was impressed and shocked and was thrilled as well, and I was happy I found a way to help her by being frugal.

I just went to a shower on Saturday and like you, am on a tight budget. What I did was look through all the sunday circulars and found that Target had the best selection of seperates ($4 each). I went and got a top and pants, and a Dr Suess Baby board book for a total of $12. I used a gift bag with an attached card that I already had and reused tissue from another present.

If $12 does not fit in your budget, check Target's sale rack for swimwear for baby. They were under $5. My friend, who also went to the same shower as I did, picked up 2 swimsuits for baby in different sizes for less than $10.

Another idea is to pick up books for baby. You can go to Borders or Barnes & Noble and find great baby board books for $3.99 or less in their discount section. People rarely give books at showers but I always hear people comment on what a great idea it was.

I usually buy a laundry basket - the dollar tree usually has the round ones and fill it up with items.

For my sister I bought - things that she would need but not right away. I bought baby food. A few different fruits & veg's --- check the dates alot of them don't expire until 2010 - she would have plent of time to use them. The rice cereal etc. It came in real handy when she started her daughter on it.

When they got married I did the same things... basket full of household items and some can goods and cereals...

good luck --- 11|1|target's has good sales on baby and toddler stuff|glennie58|glenn_scott@alumni.ksg.harvard.edu|17:37:54|09/12/2008|

This is how I have done it in the past without having to buy a pattern, you can use a cloth diaper as a pattern or simply a sheet of printing paper to use as a pattern. Cut 2 pieces of material using your pattern cut it so that the material is about 1 inch bigger around then the pattern(this allows for the stiching allowance)with print facing eachother and sew it using 5/8 seam. Sew it like how a pillow case is done, with one end opened..then turned the fabric right side out,sew the opening shut, and then I continue around the whole thing so that it is top stiched and durable.** you can use material you have around your house, fleece, flannel, cotton prints..even terry cloth towel material on one side is great and makes it absorbant.

** I've made some bigger burb cloths before and they also work great in the crib to lay under babys to help keep the crib sheets clean and free of spit up and prevent diaper accidents from getting on the sheet.
