Today at the grocery store, I seen a guy re-stocking the outside pop machine w/cans of Coke. He had the 12pk. cartons & was taking the individual cans out to put in the machines. I thought, 'what the heck' & went over to ask him if I could please have the Coke codes from the cartons. I could see in the cart that he had opened each carton right around the perforated codes as there were 2-3 laying there, separate from the cartons, & there were another 2-3 more 12pks. he had yet to open. He said he wasn't allowed to give them to anyone. I nicely asked why saying they would just get tossed in the trash anyway. He still said no. So, I mosied back to my car. I was waiting for my mom while she did her shopping anyway so just got back in the car to continue my waiting. So.... the guy gets done re-stocking the machine, takes the cart w/the empty cartons over to the dumpster & then, takes the Coke codes out of the cart & puts them in his pants pocket before tossing the empty cartons in the dumpster. Now here's what I don't understand: If they're not allowed to give those codes to anyone, why wouldn't the guy just tear them up then & put them in the dumpster along w/the empty cartons???
Would appreciate it if someone has some light they can shed on this. Thanks! :)
Tami

But if it's of any significance, the guy isn't a regular employee of the store cuz I go there all the time & have never seen him before. Also, he wasn't driving a Coke truck or anything; just a regular, small white station wagon......

he is probably a guy who owns vending machines...and was servicing them....but it was probably easier to bs then tell you he wanted them...our sode machines are filled by us or the company, but i know many of the local businesses contract out....Jodie 2|1|Tami...see inside|BusterBrown|srfreezerqueen@hotmail.com|20:54:22|09/08/2008|

The bottom line is he can really not tell you as a customer that no, you can not have them cause I want them.....because some customers will go in and raise a fuss....it was probably easier to bs you then it was to tell you the truth....as a retail employee I have learned the hard way that there is a fine line of what you can and can not tell a customer....HTH shed some light...Jodie 5|2|Then he basically lied to me??|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|21:02:02|09/08/2008|

Oh, I could still raise a fuss cuz that guy didn't purchase those 12pks. anymore than I did & I don't think the manager would like it, especially since I'm a very regular customer there. ;) I didn't think employees, retailers or distributors of a company w/a promo could participate in those promos, particularly if that employee didn't actually buy the product w/the promo....

I have a friend that owns a vending route...she buys the product, owns the machines, and maintains them completely...which means the cases are hers to do what she wants with them....He may have simply not wanted to say to you outright NO, but not want a confrontation....
My friend drives a nondescript vehicle to some fills...or her vending truck...so you may or may not know who she is....I have no clue if it is the same situation....but bottom line is he wanted them....whether for himself or someone else who had already asked for them.... 6|1|When I worked at a grocery store they were not allowed to give them away (m)|kntrichik|mecpnho@embarqmail.com|21:19:35|09/08/2008|

Granted this was years ago before the rewards. It was when they were running a contest to get free coupons or olympic pins something. Anyway, the Coke rep was not allowed to give them away. He had to tear the code off and take them back to the plant. He had to record how many 12pks he opened at each store and they wanted to match the number of cokes with how many he opened. Same thing when pepsi did something similar. All I know is the Coke rep hated tossing them at the plant! He complained about it on a regular basis. Maybe that's what happened? Although how he did it does sound a little fishy.

The Coke guys around here do drive white station wagons, and no, they are not allowed to give the codes away, nor are they allowed to trash them. They have to take them back to the plant and record them.
So, if the guy was really a Coke employee, then he did nothing wrong.

I would've preferred he had been straight up w/me tho if he did own the vending machines & wanted the Coke codes or had to document them for record keeping. It would've been cool w/me. ;) It just did not look very kosher for him to tell me they can't give them out & then, stick them in his own pocket while tossing the rest of the carton away, kwim?
Thank you for clarifying. :)
