I've decided to start shopping around to pay less. We've had Farmer's for over 6 year now. We've had no claims, accidents or tickets and every 6 months it has always gone up. I'm not happy about it and asked why and was told that with oil being high and petrollem is used for parts to repair cars that that's the cost of doing business. I've heard that Allstate is difficult to work with when filing a claim and sometimes they don't pay claims. I don't know that this is true. Has anyone else heard this? If you're willing to share, I'd like to know who yours is with and if you are happy with them please. Positive and negative experiences are appreciated too. tia 1|1|We have State farm we both have had them since we started to drive They are great (M)|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|01:11:33|09/08/2008|

We also use them for our homeowners as well We have had a couple of house claims and a couple of car claims and everything went great The boys use them as well and so does Mom Our insurance went down of course when we moved here but has pretty much stayed the same except Bills that went up to a lil over $200.00 a month when he brought his new car 2|1|State Farm for me too, we get a rebate check right before Christmas-|Mackiesmudder|Mackiesmudder@aol.com|01:20:27|09/08/2008|

I switched from American Family to State Farm over a year ago and was able to get a better rate. And have been
very happy with them.
American Family was great when I put in a claim for hail damage to my car. 6|1|State Farm here, too....(m)|dianej2321|dndi01@bellsouth.net|10:49:17|09/08/2008|

My husband has had them for about 12 years since he moved out - all policies - car, house, IRA, etc....

His trailer has been hit by a tornado when he was 18 (12 years ago).
His motorcycle was stolen 5 years ago.
Our house was broken into 2 year ago.

We've never had a car accident but they've been great everytime we've had to deal with them!

And they haven't raised our rates once because of all this. We get lots of discounts for having so many policies with them. 7|1|We've had esurance for a few years...like it|kntrichik|mecpnho@embarqmail.com|12:15:14|09/08/2008|

Knock on wood.... Our rates have not gone up at all in the past 3 years. It CONSTANTLY increased with Progressive. The only negative I can think of with esurance is it does come directly out if your bank each month. Never a problem for us so far, but it might be for others. They were also over $50 a month cheaper than Progressive. Don't know how they are with accidents since (knock on wood) we have not had one since being on their insurance.

Previously I had Met Life (the Snoopy company) for about 10-15 yrs...
Had 2 tickets on the same day (the only tickets ever in my life!!) while staying out of town & borrowing my sisters little sporty car w/5spd, which I had no idea how to drive! It was also halloween and I was dressed as Cleopatra and had fake snakes wrapped all around my head, arms, ankle, etc. plus the entire costume... needless to say it was quite a memorable day! Anyway, they did not raise my rates one bit, but I didn't exactly call and tell them that I recvd a ticket. so, ???. But I did have a young girl rear-end my Tahoe and they were absolutely wonderful in helping me get her insurance to cover everything, since it was completely not my fault as I was stopped at a red light.

They also gave LOTS of ways to discount your service via options on your car such as ABS and airbags, plus adding an alarm system (or if it came with one as mine did), plus triple A (AAA) was a discount, and also a discount for continueing to use them and remain free from claims.

I only changed companys' because we had some really difficult financial years these past 4 years and since we never had tickets or accidents, (except the 2 mentioned above which were within a few months of eachother), so I changed to Progressive because they were VERY CONVENIENT since it's all done online (I have called and they were very helpful, but the online stuff is SO EASY!! I can make changes instantly to any of the vehicles and they are re-calculated right away and I don't have to talk to anyone or wonder if a rep. made a mistake or ??? It's all right there, every detail, and I can change it all myself. Plus they did end up being cheaper by about $15 a month, which for us was a lot.

As for bad experiences, I haven't really had any, since I haven't had to use car insurance much... and never from my own company since I've never been at fault for anything before (knock on wood!).

I really do like the Progressive though for their convenience. 9|1|Currently - Progressive - LOVE THE CONVENIENCE!!|clevengerclan|turtlebugmyers@hotmail.com|12:38:19|09/08/2008|

But I manage my policy online and that is so nice. We bought a van a few months ago and I dropped/added right online. They even sent an email out in advance of Hanna coming stating they were ready for claims if necessary. Our insurance is about $1,000 a year now (van jacked it up about 100 dollars more) and we receive a credit for having good credit (you could ask insurers about that...) and also for our credit union affiliation. Every little bit helps. I was ensured previously through Erie insurance - they did multipolicy discounts which was super nice. They were great too... I had claims with them for accidents (none my fault!) and they were easy and friendly to deal with.

Both home and auto...I think finding a local agent you can get to know is very helpful too!

My parents made the switch when I did many years ago and so did several friends and we all have had very good experiences with Erie (and yes the same local rep.).

Prior we had Allstate (myself and my parents) and they were always good to us but our agent "retired" and the new agent they assigned us was not so nice and that is why we made the switch. We have always been lucky and found a local agent that is very nice and very helpful. And that is what we get from Erie now. They may not be the cheapest but that's not how we shop for insurance. We shop more for customer service and piece of mind that when we do have a problem they will be there to help when we need it and that is exactly what they have done for us.

We were hit by a drunk driver a few years back on Christmas Day out of state. When we called the 800 number with all our info they assured us everything would be taken care of. We got a call later that day from our local agent asking if there was anything he could do to just let him know. They were there behind us till everything was done. That really "sealed the deal" for us.

17|1|That is weird that your insurance goes up....we've had Farmer's Auto for about 15 yrs, and every year ours goes down...we have 4 vehicles on the insurance, full coverage on a mini van and a 1978 Harley, liability on a 1982 Jeep and a 97 F150...our insurance rates are only $243 a quarter, and has gone down at least once every other year for no claims, no tickets, etc...we use a broker and have all our insurance (home, life, auto) with the same broker, maybe that's where our good deal comes in.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|16:37:04|09/10/2008|

ETA: The only claim we've had in 15 yrs was about 10 yrs ago when I hit a deer coming home from work at night...our deductibles arent real high either. Oh, and we did file a 'claim' for a rental car when our F150 was in the shop for 3 days. Our broker is Pekin Insurance Agency (may only be an Illinois company, but we did carry the same insurance in FL when we lived there back in the early mid 90's).
