We've been invited to a toga party - but there is a twist. It is a PURPLE toga party.
I know we could dye a bedsheet purple...but I want to do something different, but don't
know what. Anyone have any ideas how to accessorize or have some "wild ideas" of how
we can stand out? I'll send a RAOK of coupons to whoever comes up with the best idea.

Thank You

Like you said bed sheet and if it needs to be purple who want to dye one or buy a good sheet to rib. So maybe try your goodwill or thrift store for one or even a very big size pruple tee yours big enough around the neck to hang on your shoulders his to cut one side off from the arm pit up at a slant. While you are at the thrift store look for a few gold items like big gold belts, and necklaces also some gold fabric leaves to hot glue together for your head bands, silver or gold or even purple sandles/slippers,he should carry a sword and you maybe sometype of water vase or urn as props. Also dont forget the men in those days wore earrings and rings let him raise his ring hand to all the women to kiss the ring like he was a Roman God or something lol get into the character. Hope some of these help. Have fun let and take some pictures so we all can see how the togas came out. 2|1|what about purple flowers ? .....|athena|aburns1982@hotmail.com|08:23:37|09/05/2008|

whatever we decide to do we have to take on an airplane. So...no swords and nothing breakable, too large, etc... that's what makes this so hard....thank you for the ideas so far, please keep them coming

Thank You

Does the event require that the toga itself be all purple?
Why not use a white sleevless dress, cut it from one side, to make the
knot at top, accent with purple cord, tied off. You could also use a green
dress or fabric. You can accent the dress with purple accessories.
You can buy purple cord at a fabric store. Or to be even more different,
use gold fabric or dress and accent with purple accessories. Everyone will show up with
purple garments, you will be different with purple accents. The Egyptians wore head pieces.
You could easily make one from Michaels with artificial flowers and greens.
You could paint decorative purple circles and lines on your arms and legs and use purple make up to accent the white, green or gold dress or fabric. If you choose a white or green garment or fabric, you could also accent with gold and purple cord together.

I was Cleopatra (sp?) a few years back for a work costume party and it was by far my FAVORITE ever costume¡Keven with great childhood memories of Halloween costumes! And everyone was google-eyed at how well it came out. If you are trying to put it together cheaply then definitely visit the local party stores¡Kthat¡¦s where I found almost all of my items, including the snake headband & arm bands. Those were a great touch!
Also, I dyed my hair black and then ironed it to make it stick straight¡K then I sprayed a few cans of gold sparkle Halloween hairspray stuff on it until it shined! ƒº Oh, and I also sprayed the gold glittery spray on my black toga too.
I went to Michaels and JoAnns craftstore for quite a bit too. Like the golden chain-like (ribbon?) belt to go around my waist (tied around my waist with the 2 ends dangling down) and I also purchased some fake jewel buttons to sew onto the belt and some dangling/jingling coin things too. The dangly/jingly things were in the button area but they hung down form the belt around my waist like dangling gold coins¡K(that¡¦s the best description I can put into words-sorry), but the jingling effect was great!!
I also used make-up to help the overall look¡K like eyeliner and a very gold glittery eye shadow and BLACK mascara.
As for the sandals, I have a picture below, but I actually found some gold glittery sandals at Ross Clothes Store and used a narrow gold ribbon (similar to my toga belt stuff) and wound it in the shoes and then wrapped it up my calf. I had to make sure the sandal itself would stay on fine and the gold ribbon addition was just for show, because the ribbon couldn¡¦t hold the shoe on itself, it was just too flimsy¡K so keep that in mind.
Overall, look at the pics and visit the craft stores near you (with coupons of course) and HAVE FUN!
