Hi everyone. It's been a long time since i have been in contact, but I am hoping that some of you can share your experience with me. I was losing my health insurance so I went in for mammogram before it ended. It came back with a mass. I went back in and they did an ultrasound, then the surgeon did a biopsy right then. I lost my insurance and have entered into payment arrangements until I pay the the 2000.00 off. It was over 3000.00 billed for the room to the insurance, not including the radiologist, etc... I can't believe what all of this has costed. i will be paying this for the next 2 years it seems like. The biopsy came back and the surgeon wants to monitor the lump. I have not gone back for additional testing at this point. It has been 3 months. My breast hurts. The pain can go from minor to pretty heavy. I have a small scar, no redness, no discharge No fever so I figure No infection. Please do not tell me to go back to the doctor, I simply cannot afford all these medical bills and neither can family. I do not qualify for state assistance, so please don't tell me that either. I am one of the people who gets to fall thru the cracks like others. I've worked since I was 13 years old! I'm growing tired... I'm under 50 and gray as ever. What have you done for breast pain? What have you done about mammograms and lumps? Anyone ever try natural methods?
What am I in for and what do I look out for. Any tips might help, like diets and the like. This is a very awakening experience. Thank you in advance. Happy thanksgiving.

Check & see if your dr./clinic/hospital has some kind of "community" or "charity" care program for people w/low or no insurance. Most clinics/hospitals do & should have the forms at the reception desk. Or simply ask the nurse/dr. for one if you'd be more comfortable asking them. You fill out the form (you can put it in a sealed envelope for privacy), return it & it then goes to the clinic/hospital board for review to see if you qualify to have some/all of your medical bill forgiven. It's certainly worth a shot, especially since a mass was found & your breast is bothering you, both concerns that may need more looking into. It's nothing to mess around with, & I guess for me, the peace of mind of finding out one way or the other if it's serious would be more of a concern than the $$$ cost.
Wishing you all the best on both counts & hoping & praying for you that it's merely a benign cyst. :)

If you're still menstruating, your breast pain/discomfort may be fluctuating due to that time of the month. Mine seem to get more tender/achy around "that" time. You can try using a heating pad or ice pack, or both alternately, whichever way seems to help the most. I know Tylenol doesn't do diddly squat for me for anything but maybe it or Ibuprofen, or even just plain aspirin, may help any inflammation you might have & reduce the pain/discomfort. There is also Vick's Vapor Rub or Mentholatum, something along the lines of what you might use to ease the pain of a sore muscle. :)

Create a life that feels good on the inside, not one that just looks good on the outside.

and drs office to see if you qualify for a discount for the hospitals services. I had insurance but my deductible is SO high there was no way I could pay for a mammogram and I am on a limited income to boot. The drs office referred me to someone at the local hospital to contact to see if I qualified for their 'voucher' program. Guess they get some kind of 'grant' type thing (very small rural community area here) and no..I don't qualify for any other type of utility or housing services or even food stamps but immediately got approved for the mammogram voucher. They actually had to do 2 as they seen some shadows on the first one. Turns out just little fatty masses so all is OK. But call around as well..maybe another town close by..their hospital might offer something similar if your town's doesn't.

I was told my friends daughter had breast cancer with no insurance. They helped her at no cost. Also check with your county trustees. They have lots of information and funding for a lot of things. Praying

12 . "Breast pain from mammogram...."
Posted by Beaglesfly on Dec-08-18 at 08:07 PM (Eastern)

I went for a mammogram last year, and the doctor recommended a needle biopsy as she thought there was something irregular (probably also because we have a history of breast cancer in the family...wouldn't be surprised if we have the BRCA gene in our family).

Anyway, after the 2 minute procedure, for at least a year afterwards, I would have a shooting pain in my breast near where they did the biopsy. It would only last for a minute or two at a time, but it was painful. It has receded though over time.

Hope that helps you, although I would always recommend a follow up with a doctor just to be sure.
