"Reduced calories and gaining weight???"

Hope someone can help me with this one.
I stopped drinking Mt. Dew about 6 months ago. I was drinking about a 2 liter a day of the regular, not diet. By my calculations I've given up well over 1000 calories per day, as now I just drink water--no coffee, no lemonade, nothing but water. I thought that doing this would help me lose weight. Well, it hasn't, in fact, I'm gaining. Anyone know why? I'm starting to think that I'd be better off going back to the Mt. Dew. I had an easier time getting up and was more motivated throughout my day.
I've consulted a doctor who prescribed an antidepressant--one that's associated with weight loss, and it's not working!
Anyone have any ideas or advice?

TIA,
Shelia

2L of Mountain Dew has got to have the equivalent of a pot of coffee in terms of caffeine...maybe more! So by cutting that out, you have most likely decreased your metabolism. To get it revved up again with out going back to "doing the Dew", you should
take up exercize....I know, probably NOT what you wanted to hear!

I know I shouldn't eat that late, but would that really make up for that many calories? I think I tend to agree that my metabolism slowed when I stopped all the caffiene. The only way to combat that is exercise, but now I have no energy to get going, much less exercise! I feel like it's a catch-22.
What else can I do besides stop the late night snack?

If weight loss is associated with a medicine, conversely so can it be weight gain. :( Especially for anti-depressents. It depends on how the individual reacts to the medicine more so than what's listed as the most common side-effects. I know, blah. GL

9 . "Lift weights ..."

Whenever you work out with weights you're increasing your metabolism. Everyone knows that muscle burns more than fat. =) Also, I highly recommend Joyce L. Vedral. I have her book "Toning for Teens" and have also read others she's written aimed more toward adults. Free weights are the way to go. I definitely noticed a difference - especially in my arms. I tended to skip the lower body workout (I know, bad me) because it took more time. The upper body workout I actually enjoyed doing! I guess it's because I saw a difference really fast and that motivated me to keep it up.

Also...how MUCH water are you drinking? 8 glasses a day isn't an exaggeration. I've done it before habitually (slacking off as of late) and it's not really that hard. 1 when you wake up, 1 before lunch, 1 with lunch, 1 with snack, 1 before dinner, 1 with dinner, 1 with after-dinner snack & 1 before you go to bed. There's your 8! In case you're having a lot of sodium, you could be storing water weight. So you want to flush all that out of your system.

I went two years without soda. It felt sooo good. Now I allow myself to drink it, but I usually opt for something else. I also went a month without cheese. Soo much harder than it sounds let me tell you!

And fiber. Fiber has bulk making you feel fuller faster & longer. Yumm....fiber. I hate all that air & sugar posing as white bread anyway. Most foods that are high in fiber have lower sugar content than their alternative. Sugar when not used up (yes, as in physical exercise) can turn to fat.

Wow I wrote three paragraphs. Well, let me close with this: I have no authority whatsoever when it comes to dieting. I sort of like to play around with it for a while and then forget about it ... so on & so forth. I sincerely wish you the best of luck with your diet, but remember - cutting the Mountain Dew out of your diet & replacing it with water is soooo healthy. Perhaps your weight loss hasn't showed up yet, but I'm sure your health has improved & your body is silently thanking you.

NOTHING. Oprah was having a hard time & here it was discovered she was eating grapes before bed & this guy said you can not eat anything and a good rule is not to have anything from after supper until the next morning. Just found the info interesting & am trying hard myself to enforce it.

When dinner is over, around 6 pm the eating stops until breakfast. I can have a diet soda or tea or coffee but nothing with calories. Ocasionally air popped popcorn but not often.

When you cut back calories drasticaly your body thinks it is starving and goes into starvation mode where it can live off a small amount of calories. Sometimes to jump start your body you will have to consume a few more calories so it does not think it is starving. It is a survival mechanism really kinda neat unless you are trying to lose weight LOL.

Have you ever had you thyroid checked? It can cause a weight gain also your meds might make it harder to lose.

I know it is frustrating but keep researching I know you will find something that works for you. Every body is different so you really do have to educate yourself and by trial and error find what i right for you.

Good luck !!

As long as it doesnt say Caffeine free wouldnt it be the same without all the calories? Tea has alot of caffeine and not so many calories also so maybe you could drink diet ice tea. After years of worshipping my scales I am trying to bacl off of them.I found that I could be feeling skinnier but the scales would stay the same and then Id feel fat again and ruin my day:( I also heard on OPRAH that you shouldnt weigh yourslef for teh first two months of weight loss/excersise.

I use to drink Mt. Dew from the minute I woke up until I went to bed. After I stopped I started to gain weight. I didn't change anything else in my diet/lifestyle. Just giving up the dew. I really believe that the caffiene has something to do with it. I gained about 10 pounds in a short period of time but I leveled off there. I went up one size in pants and have stayed there. It sucks but I know it's better than all that pop/caffiene.

Thanks!
