My son is starting all day kindergarten in Sept. and he needs to bring THREE freekin snacks and drinks a day(SHEESH-I never had to bring so much stuff to school!!!) he's supposed to bring one for breakfast, with lunch and afternoon.I am totally stumped on what to stock up on for the breakfast snacks. All the snacks are supposed to be healthy-ha! I'd prefer to send individual wrapped things to cut down on the amount of stuff he's lugging around(im not big on tupperware anyway).I was thinking fruit cups but I have a hard time opening those myself!I've bought granola bars (but really how healthy is a quaker chocolate chip granola bar),peanut butter and cheese crackers, snack pack cookies and crackers, oatmeal creme sanwiches, fruit snacks, roll ups.Im totally drawing a blank on what to send in the morning.So............HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im asking so early so I can stockpile with cpns.
Thanks for any help:)
Stacy

PS-And I thought that since we werent paying for preschool this year we'd have more money-HA! Snacks alone cost a bundle! My son never eats three snacks between 9-3 at home. And dont even get me started on the school supply list!It was almost enough to have me picketing city hall to give more of our astronomical property tax money to the schools!

Please leave feedback at the tone..........BEEEEP.Thanks:)

i pack my kids lunches and snacks and i do buy the crunchy or chewy granola bars (they are better than cookies). I also buy fruit and cereal bars, or pack actual cereal in a little container, string cheeses, crackers, cut veggies with dip, 1/2 peanut butter and jelly sandwich, yogurt cup, pudding or jello cup, cookie, small buiscuit with cheese and ham or whatever, zucchini muffins (i've got tons of zucchini growing now and make muffins and freeze them), banana muffins, cut up cantalope or some other fruit. This tends to work well along with lunch which I pack in a thermos (usually leftovers) since the only sandwich they like is PB&J. I only let them buy lunch 1 or 2 days a month on pizza day as a treat. Bringing lunches and snacks is much cheapter than having them buy it in the long run. but 3 snacks is a lot of snacks!

*Quaker oatmeal breakfast bites or bars.
*Freeze GoGurt and have him take it, by lunch or afternoon snack it will be thawed and still cold.
*Cut up fresh fruit and send in a baggie.
*Slice up apples and send a little bitty container with peanut butter to dip it in. or use celery sticks. Can do carrots and when you go to McD's or something, get them to give you some ranch packets unless he can't open them well.
*Send crackers with peanut butter. Sandwich style so pb doesn't get on anything.
*Send trail mix if he'll eat it.
*Send a frozen bottle of water or juice, it'll be thawed for afternoon snack.
*Raisins are always a hit in my house.

There's others but I can't think of them right now. My dd starts Aug 1st so I'm planning lunches now.

4 . "Does he like to eat cereal w/out the milk?"

My 5 year old son likes to eat cereal out of the box as a snack. So if your son does too, maybe you could put some in a ziplock bag for his 'breakfast' snack (kinda healthy). I bought pretty much the same stuff that you listed for snacks for my son. (another customer at the grocery store thought that I was getting ready for another huricane lol!) My son is starting Kindergarten this year too. But they can't bring breakfast or afternoon snacks to school, just lunch stuff. The paperwork says that they have to eat breakfast before school, however there is no way I can get him to eat anything at 6:30-7am. So I'm sure he'll be starving by lunch time & then again when I pick him up from school. Oh & no naptime anymore either.

And I know what you mean about the school supply list. I know I know, teachers don't make crap, the school doesn't supply what is needed in their classrooms & if the parents don't supply it then the teachers have to pay for it out of their own pocket. But why does it have to be only "crayola", "expo dry erease", name brand stuff? Why can't it be the roseart or others, they are just as good & alot cheaper! I have friend who is a Kindergarten Teacher & I don't dare say anything in front of her about the school supply lists!

HI
I agree that 3 is alot !!
I think that 2 snacks and a lunch and 2 water bottles for camp is alot .

I agree I like the pre portions .
I also don't agree on the "healthy " snack that is each own ideas
I use the fruit snacks
the fruit cups with the plastic tops
applesauce cups
small lunchables the ones with no drink and no snack
nabisco trays lots of choices crackers , cookies , marshmellow
also the pretzels and cheese or crackers and cheese
and this year pudding in a tube and peanut butter in a tube are HITS here
I like the pre -portins because if they drop anything they jsut to pick it up and its snacks small enough to make them feel like they ate soemthing more

8 . "Reason why name brand etc"
Posted by Julie on Jul-15-05 at 02:50 PM (Eastern)
Posted on Jul-15-05 at 02:50 PM (Eastern) by 216.138.53.43

I used to be a teacher...The reason some schools do this is because they put all of the supplies together. When it is time to use them they just pass them out. Not to the kids who brought them etc. All the glue bottles go together without names on them etc. This makes it easier. No glue spilled in desks, etc. Then when they are needed and passed out everyone has the same thing. This is why some of them do it any way. It is not because they want you to spend money. The name brand can be bought anywhere. The off brand sometimes are not available everywhere. If they said bring Rose art markers then someone would say that the Target (or where ever) that they were at did not have Rose Art. Everyone carries Crayola. You might want to ask if this is the reason here.

Wal mart has tons of store brand crackers for $1.00 a box. Mix a few kinds of those with some cherrios, marshmallows, raisins etc. We used to do this at my job when I was working. Each one of the three of us would bring a box of something and a gallon sized bag and mix them all together. SHake them up in the bag and then we h ad snacks for the week or more.

i know they cost a fortune~! however if you watch...last year staples or office max had 16 ct crayola for 19cents limit of five then they also had an 8pack markers for 99 cents limit 5 and colored pencils for 67cents or something really cheap like that. i did five twice during the week then price matched at walmart a few times. my daughter will start preschool in the fall *she is three* and i still have at least 8 boxes of crayons and 5 boxes of markers left over. i am not sure about the other supplies. but i am stockpiling now too. it is just outrageous to spend 3.59 on markers. hth~molly~
