We didn't do this with our son. We bought the Potty Power DVD. And after two viewings he actually wanted to sit on the potty. And then three months later he is peeing like a guy in the toilet. : ) That DVD really got the ball rolling. NO PUN INTENDED!! LOL!!

My son first did pee-pee in the potty when he was 11 months old...he was so interested in everyone using the bathroom, that you couldn't go alone!! Of course I had to lift him up, but he was soooo excited!!
Here are some things for boys I've tried/heard of:
Put cheerios in the toilet and let them have target practice...lol they think its so fun!
And mother who used to bring her son to my preschool class i used to teach had this stuff...dont know what its called or where to get it, like tablets or something, that you put in the potty, and when you pee-pee it turns green, so her son was so excited that he could make the water green!!!

hth!

That's exactly what I'm looking for is a doll that pee's. I'd like to find one that is anatomically correct, but inexpensive. I'll have to check out the dvd's for potty power etc... Thanks

I highly recommend that--it really helped my son out a lot, and he was stubborn about potty training (he was 4 and still not trained). He watched it a few times and about 2 weeks later he was fully trained! It is pretty cheap, too--I think I got it at overstock.com for about $10 or $12. :)

It is quite realistic--it actually shows kids sitting on the potty (nothing exposed, of course) and shows how to wipe by having kids wipe the bottom of a teddy bear. This video describes the whole process through fun songs and a cute skit, and it (I think) really makes a big kid feel like they are a big kid if they use the potty.

I used this along with some reward stickers from the Kandoo training kit, and it worked great for me. My 4-year-old Damien was so stubborn, did not want to use the potty AT ALL no matter what until after seeing this video. After watching Potty Power, he got excited about using the potty.

HTH!

:) Michelle

You got us that great deal on it, and I'm really glad--I'm going to use it with my 2-year-old soon to start getting him ready.

She likes to take her diaper off when she is wet. (peed on the floor the other week)

My oldest was trained right before 3. If I can get out of diapers I would love it, please give me some of your tips. thanks so much

13 . "THIS WILL BE MY 1ST TIME POTTY TRAINING"
Posted by zombietoo on Jun-21-05 at 03:10 AM (Eastern)
Posted on Jun-21-05 at 03:10 AM (Eastern) by 4.88.46.246

I've read about 3 different approaches:
1 - 1-3 days - clear calender for 1-4 days with no interruptions (t.v. and radio stay off, answering machine picks up calls, etc...) stay home and the only thing going on is potty training
2 - two weeks to one month - still clear schedule for about three days initially
3 - four to six months - still clear schedule for about 3 days initially
- explains signs of readiness
- suggests snacks (potato chips, pretzels, sugarcoated cereal, candy, ice cream, cookies, juices, kool-aid, soft drinks) as rewards and to increase thirst. It says to stay away from cheese. Go to the store with your child to pick out snacks, keep snacks out in plain view, and don't give in and let the child have any snacks before the "Big Event", also dollar store toys in bags a child gets to pick out a bag at the end of the day and then eventually go pick out a toy and do a sticker chart to earn stickers for dryness and then the child gets to go buy the toy at the end of the week
- suggests a training doll and explains role playing for you to go through the whole process with your child and for your child to use to teach it how to go potty
- The morning of for breakfast stay away from sugar cereals or foods and save the sugar for later.
- suggests trying in the morning, before and after naps, bedtime and after meals have the child sit on the potty from 4-10 minutes, never to the point the child gets frustrated, if the child doesn't want to sit any longer try again in 15-20 min, while child is sitting on the potty you hold a treat and if the child goes, the child gets the reward and praise
-explains the focus is on staying dry and you repeatedly ask and continue with treats for dryness and double treats for going potty
-explains patience, not to scold for accidents, focus on staying dry and clean and have the child check for dryness, use motivating rewards,
HTH GOOD LUCK

15 . "This is how I did my two...."
Posted by precious1nat on Jun-21-05 at 10:18 AM (Eastern)
Posted on Jun-21-05 at 10:18 AM (Eastern) by 24.160.143.160

First thing in the AM we sat on the potty till something happened...1 hour if necessary...just sitting there....Then finally when it did happen we had an all out party screamming, laughing, wooohooooing, a cupcake (or treat), the whole nine yards called G-ma told her and just celebrated. Then about 2 hours later we did the same thing all over again....and again and again. She potty trained in 1 day never had not 1 accident EVER!!! Then I would use reverse psychology on her and say lets put you a pamper and she would freak and so noo mommy I wont pee. So she never did...Oh and we even did this in teh middle of the night for about 2 or 3 nights....I did this again with my son at 18 months...He still took a bottle, but hey he was potty trained...

Please let me know if you take my advice and how it goes for you.....Remember that by making her feel like she did it and not you forcing her she will want to do it more so..

Oh during the time you wait for her to go potty, read books, entertain her well. Dont let her get bored then she will cry to get off the potty and she will start to resent it. So make it fun for her and celebrate a potty day!!

she used to call them tampies....NEVER EVER USE DIAPERS AGAIN....THIS IS CONFUSING TO THEM...If you have to leave take 3 or 4 outfits and a towel for the carseat. I have successfully potty trained my 2 and many others for friends and family with this technique...Thanks.
