"need advice re SS disability/workers comp"

DH is currently collecting SS disability and partial workers comp.

Workers comp is offering a lump-sum settlement which our lawyer thinks is probably something we should do. One of the main reasons he thinks we should accept it is because if something should happen to DH, I would not receive anything from workers comp. At least this way, we would be guaranteed enough money to equal 5-6 years more of workers comp.

The lawyer also believes that workers comp will start "hassling" us in the future about DH finding a job. Although there are very few jobs he would physically be able to do (and he has no high school education for other type jobs), they could make our lives miserable, I guess. DH can only sit/stand/walk for very short periods of time so there aren't too many jobs he could ever do.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody has any advice/experience to share?

and a hassle it is! i was 7 months pregnant and laid off (waitress) i couldn't fit between the tables, even though i basically "couldn't" get a job they still made me do at least 3 apps a week and take the weekly courses. your lawyer may be right, it may be in your best intrest to take the settlement. hth and gl :)

I used to work for an attorney who did workers' comp and Social Security Disability. I may be able to help answer any questions. Thanks.
