I am on the budget plan for my electric bill. I am paying $249 EVERY MONTH on the budget plan. Every year at this time is my "settlement" month. For the last three years, I have had a credit (not much, but I get this month off). Just got the bill today, it says my settlment amount is $1255!!!!! But, get this, my monthly budget amount is going DOWN $20 a month starting next month!

I went back and pulled out all my bills, seems right after my settlment last year my "actual" usage amount was $900. I can't figure that one out, because every single month after that is around $200 or less, so how in the heck did I get charged $900 for one month, especially with a credit of $100 from the previous month's settlement! I am going to call on Monday, this must be some kind of mistake, and I sure as heck don't have $1255 to pay this right now, with hubby just starting back to work finally, but we won't even get his first check until the end of January (it's a contract job and they will pay 45 days after he bills them, and he has to work 2 weeks before he can bill them. We've pretty much wiped out all our savings already paying the bills for the last three months, and we still haven't gotten his last check for a month's work from his last job. That should arrive in January too, that company always paid 60-90 days after being billed, we were really hoping for it to come in sooner.

Boy, I sure hope they screwed it up back in Janary and will fix it!

We had the same situation, we paid the budget amount the past 12 months and then WHAM, just got hit with the adjustment bill. I am so sorry this happened to you with the electric, it is so unfair... I really think these companies should alert us if things are so completely out of balance.

We are still trying to figure out how to come up with money for Christmas for our kids because we were not expecting this bill... am sure we will both find a solution as we are smart women! Take care,
Shel

2 . "I dont do the budget billing, but why dont they do what my mortgage company does when my escroll needs adjustment (they automatically adjust the mortgage to ensure I have enough for escroll when there is increases in my insurance or taxes), and sometimes my mortgage then goes down some if there is overage towards the end of the year....it usually only goes up by maybe $10-20, but then may go down by as much as $40-50.....much easier to handle "
