I had a great Thanksgiving..turned out better than I expected. But boy it got ruined after by so many unfair charges and rip offs..

1st I put money in my bank account on Tuesday - they don't process till late Wed. and they charge me 4 overcharge fees on 3 tiny checks because they didn't put in my deposit till 1 day late. I'm complaining to them but not sure what it will do if anything. I can't believe they would deduct stuff immediately but not credit cash deposits. Seems like just a way to make themselves money and I told them so. They always told me deposits go in immediately before debits but guess that isn't the case.

Then, I go to the store and in the bin where they put deeply discounted stuff are 3 nice 500 piece puzzles. My son goes on the customer service line for me to find out how much they are and comes back - they are just .99. They have a very slight water stain on the bottom of the box. So I buy 3 - 1 for sons and 2 for gifts. I am in the store so I have a big cart of food also. The next day I'm going over my receipts and they charged me 6.99 each puzzle!! Yes I can return them or get my credit but it is just another rip off by the store thinking they can get away with something if you don't check and fight. So now I have to go out of my way to get my $18 back!!! Just another think I'm anoyed out this morning.

Not to cound the trade I'm still waiting for. I went out of my way to get something for someone here..even called them personally to get it in the mail so they would have it immediately (since I was going to be away from the computer)..and never received payment nor a reply to my emails. It isn't much money but boy just another annoyance and rip off!!!

I'm short of money as it is and I am trying to save and refund and get good deals and it seems like I just get ripped of my everyone at every chance there is...

sorry..i'm just so annoyed this mornign and need to let out steam!!

it's frustrating when we work so hard to save money and make our families lives better. I am not trying to play one-upmanship but living in florida makes this a daily occurrance - in addition to the way corporate america is going everyone down here in business is in florida because there is no enforcement of consumer protection laws. it's like living in a mine field and everyone cheats the consumer of all they can.

we never get rent deposits back and I KNOW how to clean an apartment, we even clean the rugs twice before moving out... once they charged us $1800 and it is sticking to my dh credit report right now, but we have pictures and we are not taking this one lying down...

take your car in and they do damage to it, or spend 8 hours 'labor' at 27$/hour and can't find the problem.... buy food on sale and it's expired - for TG we got some bridgestones (?) rolls in the freezer section and when I took them out to bake I noticed they were dated 7/10/07... this kind of thing happens all the time. instead of rotating stock they just sell it off ...

america, the land of the greedy and home of the crooked.

They had this listed on that page for where to complain

Well I've been calling and writing with the bank, of course with no luck. Now get this, I had deposited enough money to cover the fees etc. I had $59 in my account and only 1 check of $40 outstanding. So what happens, they charge another late fee of $36 (for why I don't know..they said something about it not crediting the day it was originally charged) and then have the nerve to say there's another overdraft. I am so fed up with them so I put in triple what is needed and am now going looking for another bank...but not first without continuing my complains. I am so mad you have no idea.

Well about the puzzles I was overcharged. I got all the boxes together (and see .92 is handwritten on the side of them) went back to the store early today before work (and had to wait 10 minutes since customer service doesn't "open" till 7:20 am on the dot, tell her and show her my receipt. Well, she not only refunded my $6.99 three times for the 3 puzzles, but she also credited me the .92 charge three times for their error. So I got these free - but no really since all the aggravation and my running back and forth and waiting is worth lots more than $3.

I'm looking at another receipt yesterday just out of annoyance at all the wrong charges. I was at a dollar-type store where they sell stuff for only $5 and below..games etc. They had a leappad book/cartridge for 3-5th grade on sale marked for just $1. I bought it for a gift along with a couple other items. Of course on my receipt is shows $5. I call the store and they tell me all leappad stuff is $5. I get home, get the book/cartridge, and on it is the tag that says $1. I knew they were $1 -- that's why I bought it. So now I'm even more angry and have to go all the way back there tonight. $4 may not be worth it but I'm just so XXXXXd off I have to.

And still, no reply to my email and no trade in from that person. I'll be posting about this soon!

Ugh..can't take any more. Things are so tight now as it is.

5 . "That's why I don't leave stores now without checking"

A few suggestions--I won't let cashiers start ringing me up until I can watch as things ring up, even turn the little screen so I can watch. If that's not possible, I don't leave the store until I check my receipt. Because of this, I try not to shop with my kids since I know I'd be distracted by them. I go to the grocery store at night by myself, so I can check prices and coupons better without distractions. I know that some people don't have that luxury, but the not leaving the store without checking the receipt is essential. The price of gas is too high to keep making trips back to the store.
As for the banking thing, our bank puts all deposits in before debiting items. We bank at a credit union, and I know for a fact that most banks do the opposite. If they debit first, they have more of a chance to charge fees, so that's why they do it. When shopping for another bank, get their policies in writing and know up front. Credit unions are wonderful if you can join one. Good luck!

7 . "Great ideas..."

unfortunately I always seem to have my two kids with me when I shop and that is one of my biggest distractions!! I try to watch but now I know I'm going to have to do better and yes, check the receipt, even if it means sitting in the parking lot a few minutes more to do so...

Unfortuantely my co. doesn't have a credit union. Can anyone join a credit union or does it have to be associated with your job??? I hate my bank right now. They lie and tell me credits first. Then, they debit first. They tell me go to the ATM after 2:00 so it is credited same day, then they tell me that doesn't work. Now the teller today says anything after 3 bank or atm is next day. Well that didn't explain the 1:00 deposit and the 2:00 deposit? I can't believe anything they say anymore and I told -- and wrote them that exactly.

Thanks...your ideas really make me think about changing how I do stuff.

8 . "Alot of banks are hurting now"

because of the mortage mess. They are starting to look for ways to make money (extra "fees"). Look closely at any disclourses the bank sends. Some are raising fees on lots of things.
If you can check your bank account balance online, you should do that to make sure the deposit is available in your account before you write any checks.

Banks have changed since the "Check 21" Banking Law ..that went into effect at the end of 2004. This is an older news article but it may help to explain why your bank is being a "pain"
http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/consumerawareness/a/check21.htm
info from this website:
"Expect the checks you write to clear faster, but not your deposited checks: Don't write a check unless the funds are already in your account.
The checks you write will clear faster, but banks aren't required to speed up the time when they make funds available from checks that you deposit.
Most banks will credit checks you deposit into your account in one day if the check is local. Deposits that are made through ATMs can take an extra day to be credited to your account.
And out-of-town checks you deposit can take additional days to be credited to your account."

I hope everything works out okay. I am sure you would rather use the money yourself than giving it to the bank in extra fees.
