I remember my mom use to say this when I was growing up and I never got the TRUE meaning until I had kids....(wish my mom was alive to hear me saying this phrase...I know she'd laugh soooo hard)

I also am forming my own ..when the kids ask for stuff the whole way thru a store I tell them
"Get a job!"

I am sure they will be passing that one on to their own children.

get these sayings out of! LOL!! I can relate to ALL those hearing them from MY mom!

Another one is: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"

I now try to throw in some of my own to my own kids. I heard these somewhere am sure and picked them up and they have 'stuck' now! lol!

"Build a bridge and get OVER it!"

"Ya THINK??!"

This one is based on hubby's little nephew..used to say it when he was little all the time BEFORE he started crying..would get on everyone's nerves so we would answer it with the followed phrase as well:

Nephew: "I wanna Cry..I wanna cry..I wanna cry!" (rubbing eyes as it's being repeated)..then followed by someone saying " well just CRY and get it over with then!!" LOL

Now everytime I am frustrated I imitate him and say that " I wanna cry" phrase *grin*

One of the new phrases I told my kids when they were teens and suddenly they knew EVERYTHING...told them in a hurried panicked voice pointing to the front door: "HURRY!! Get going and run out that door as FAST as you can and get started in the world before you FORGET everything and don't let the door hit you in the butt when you go!"

They always followed that by " I don't know EVERYthing!" then me saying "Hmmm...you sure SOUND like you seem to.." they would then immediately lose "the" attitude and go off to their room or whatever. Worked for me! :)
